Yvon Pedneault reported he was told by an unnamed source that the negotiations between the Canadiens and Vadim Shipachyov are close to being a done deal.

Quite possible. Although i wouldn't be overly surprised - it seems the habs have had the inside track for a little while.

Just poor choice of words by the paper, close to signing and pushing hardest to sign are 2 different things.

Chances are that he does sign there, usually when a team pushes that hard, they end up signing the KHL/Euro guy.

I'd guess Jost if they dont trade the pick.

Maybe Sergachev...assuming none of the top ranked guys fall.

Jost, chychrun, sergachev, Brown will prob there. Personally, I would like to see them take Jost or one of the top D. Jost could be a steal.

So slow day... what are your thoughts - should Datsyuk retire and Detroit dangles their first rounder (#16) to take on his 1yr contract (no cash out the door); what would you give up to do that? A rebuilding team like the Devils should certainly be interested.

No way DET gives up their 1st to get rid of him. I wouldn't mind it. I think at the most you could probably get a 2nd at the most. A 3rd and Jurco would do for me. Jurco's numbers and TOI have declined every year and I think he could be a good pick up to play along side Zacha on the 3rd line, with either Elias or Blandisi on the LW.

With Cam-Henrique-? and Boucher-Zajac-Palmieri, this combination of Elias/Blandisi-Zacha-Jurco, could give us 3 scoring lines.

No way he isn't. I think you should be looking at players like Nylander at that point.

Jost isn't a steal at 9 but isn't a bad pick either.

I think Nylander will be gone. Thinking the Habs should either take one of the top 3 D-men (if still available) or Keller.

1. Matthews, 2. Laine, 3. Pulju, 4. Dubois, 5. Tkachuk, 6. Nylander, 7. Chychrun, 8. Juolevi, 9. Sergchyev/Keller

Something like that. I'd take Keller before Jost or Brown probably.

I've got a feeling Keller is going somewhere between 8-10. Hopefully Brown is still around at 11.

I'd think the big 3 defensemen have a decent chance to go before Nylander. One couldn't definitely go 4. I also think Jost and Brown's stocks are so up, one could potentially push Keller.

The Palmeri thing needs to get done asap. There isn't really much reason to mess around with this.

Maybe size causes Keller to slide but I think that would be a mistake and I think he is pretty underrated.

Here is a good breakdown of his production comparison to other top USDP players. He produced at a better rate than Eichel at only a few months older.

Is Palmieri really worth 6 years at $5.5M?

Looking at his production prior to last season makes his current situation look eerily similar to one David Clarkson...

But I didn't watch Palmieri play much so that could just be coincidence.

He's a really skilled, hard working guy. Fast, smart, everything you want in a forward. He might've been held back by 3rd line minutes and even immaturity. He's a young guy.
